Climbing or hiking a mountain with rough terrain can become a great challenge. It can be overwhelming and challenging, especially when the weather factors in. Mount Everest last year in 2023 it is recorded that at least 17 people at different times are dead. The most common causes of death on Mount Everest are acute mountain sickness, falls, avalanches, exhaustion, crevasses, exposure, and hypothermia.
There are mountains in our lives metaphorically speaking that we face everyday. Some are bigger than others. God reminds us that faith conquers doubts and fear. Even in the most difficult of circumstances.
“Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.” Mark 11:22-23 NLT
Seeking the will of God can become a frustrating journey, especially when it cuts against the grain of what our culture calls success.
When the Lord calls He does equip us for the task at hand, although we may not always see the whole picture. This is where faith is applied (Trusting in God and His Word, which is not blind faith).
One thing to realize is that God is the one who qualifies the called, and He doesn’t call the qualified. Moses saw the promised land, but Joshua and Caleb conquered to possess the promise land; while the other ten spies murmured, complained, and doubted them.
The obstacles in front of them were certainly intimidating. The doubters saw themselves as little grasshoppers, while Caleb and Joshua had the ‘Eyes of Faith’. “They are bread for us”! (Numbers 13:30-33).
Joshua and Caleb now eighty-five years old encouraged them to move forward. Three times Joshua admonishes them to ‘Be strong and courageous’, and not to fear the enemy or what battles and obstacles (mountains) you are facing!
“No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. “Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous.
Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:5-9 NLT
Soon after Joshua and the people crossed the Jordan River on ‘dry ground! Then the other impossible task was to conquer the Canaanites who built a wall surrounding the city of Jericho. They did an uncanny thing and marched around the walls 13 times. 7 times on the last day. Then blew the trumpets 🎺 and guess what. The walls fell flat and they possessed the land.
What a victory!
What faithful leadership by Joshua and Caleb!
Yes, God kept his promise to them. Why? They believed the Lord for the impossible and they listened to God and not the naysayers.
What are you facing today? If you have doubts, ask the Lord to help you to overcome your doubts, fears, and discouragement.
Notice, the first step of faith was to cross the Jordan River on dry ground. God say, “Step out and I’ll dry the river up for you to cross.” This is the hard part to trust. Why? Because we cannot see it in the natural. This is when you can see the power of God’s hand moving.
“For we walk by faith not by sight” 1 Corinthians 5:7
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us”.
Romans 8:31, 37
Friend it is time to declare victory in your life and believe God for the impossible now, because God is bigger than this trial or test in your life.
Whatever sickness, work challenge maybe laid off, financial debts, overwhelming bills, stray children, or even death you or a loved one is facing;
Stand your ground, for the battle is the Lord’s! The enemy is not as tough or intimidating as you may think. Speak to your mountain and say, ‘ be removed and cast it into the sea in Jesus name. Amen.
