There are times when we think of rest that we get the feeling of having more sleep or just sitting down on the sofa or lazy boy recliner. You may need a long vacation like a couple of weeks to renew your mind and body. Maybe take time for yourself to clear your mind and exercise by yourself or go to a spa. The kids, the grandkids, inlaws, or spouse have zapped all your strength.
Have you ever thought about spiritual rest? This is the kind of rest that the Lord provides when we desire to be with Him. It’s the kind of rest we find in prayer, time alone with God. This kind of praying is not a ritual, it’s not a rant, or even intercessory praying for the needs of others; but this kind of praying is a one on one conversation being intimate with yourself and a loving heavenly Father-God.
We come into God’s presence in sincere worship and praise. Letting God how much we love Him and need Him in our life. Have you ever told God how much you love Him? We share our shortcomings and confess our sins, because He cares and will listen us.
When our hearts are right before God we find rest, strength, and hope. When we hold onto sin, grudges, hatred, jealousy, envy, etc. we miss out on true rest both spiritually and mentally. King David expresses this throughout most of the Psalms. When we make it right with God, confessing to Him, it helps us to make it right with others.
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God ; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge”.
Psalm 62:5 -8 NIV
Notice the Lord’s rest includes Hope, He’s our Rock and Fortress when we trust in Him, we will not be shaken no matter what we are going through or what we are facing. It’s truly an honor and privilege to depend upon God and Jesus Christ our salvation. Jesus said, Upon this Rock, I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18
Christ Jesus is the Rock! The Petra word in the Greek. Gave you ever stood on a boulder rock or high up on a mountain? When we stand on a firm foundation we will not be shaken. Trust is the key to belive and know the Lord is in control of our lives. I personally have always found the courage and peace knowing God is with me and in every situation. I don’t have to panic, freak out, or be anxious when things don’t always go my way. Even in battle God commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous… Joshua 1:5,7
We can find rest in every area of our lives spirit, mind, and body. No matter how heavy the burden God can and will turn it around for you and I as we trust in Hos word.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30 NLT
Have a day of rest and renewal today and this week my friend.
