Only the Work of God’s Spirit can Quench and Fill Your Thirst.

Hunger and thirst are two necessities that we need to survive along with oxygen and air. I went to the beach yesterday and the sun was hot. My body soon became thirsty often filling up with water and San Pellogrino seltzer. Without the water I would become thirsty, irritable, and tired.

There was an old Mountain Dew commercial that said “Obey your Thirst!”

I think Jesus summed up this campaign well.

Tell them”Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
John.4.13-14.NLT

Too often we only think of our physical hunger and Thirst, but how often we neglect our spiritual thirst?

You may not even think about spiritual thirst, because our mindset is focused on a temporary survival. Nothing about God’s Spirit filling the void and vacuum of our heart and soul. How often do you think about eternity? Is there a real heaven or he’ll?

The Jews and Samaritans did not like each other. When they had to get water they went around to get to Jacob’s well to get water to drink and to cook, clean, etc. Jesus goes to Samaria and got tired and rested at te well. The Samaritan woman asks Jesus for a drink from the well.

“Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food. The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?” Jesus replied, “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to, you would ask me, and I would give you living water.”
John.4.7-10.NLT

There were tensions due to race and religion, yet she was desperate for a drink of water. I know that feeling of being so thirsty, especially after sitting in the sauna sweating too long. (No, I do not walk around with a gallon of water at the gym!)

Jesus turns the focus to her spiritual need. ” If you knew the gift of God, He would have given you living water”.

Water is a type of the Holy Spirit in the Bible. Living water is an eternal gift that every human needs. God not only can, but will fill the void and heal the prejudices in your heart. This only happens as we open our heart to Jesus Christ.

Jesus emphasized in the beatitudes. “Blessed parentheses who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.” Matthew 5:6

Are you thirsty today? Perhaps your heart is full of junk and toxins with unforgivesness, hate, greed, lust, gossip, backbiting, etc. Today is the day to make it right with God by confessing the things that have held you into bondage and bitterness for too long

Tell them”Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
