Focus on God’s Word

Allow The Word of God to Keep You Focused

How often can our minds drift off whether intentionally or unintentionally. We begin thinking about several other things while we are sitting at a lecture, getting ready for work, family problems and issues, or anxious or worrying about that doctors visit. How am I going to pay for that unexpected bill that came in, or putting a speech or presentation together in such little time. The list can be endless.

I find the best way to stay focused is to spend time with God alone. This could be a few minutes, a half hour, or more. Personally, I find my greatest distraction is myself or even my phone. Life was so less complicated twenty five years ago without a cell phone or an IPad wasnt it? Some people say kids are always on there phones, but many adults are as well! It is so sad when eating out how at a table there is no verbal conversation or eye contact, but everyone glued on their phone and looking down at their phone on.
Personally, I leave my phone away from me when I work out, or often away when spending time alone with God. I dont need the added distractions, and I like the discipline of having quiet time. There are some things in life that can just wait!

At times we get distracted
in prayer, or even church! I’ve learned through the years that God desires our undivided attention. Jesus already knows your needs and He knows what’s in our heart and mind.

Most meditation techniques are about themselves, but Biblical meditation is focused on God.

Meditation from the Bible, is a spiritual practice that involves focusing on God’s Word in Scripture. It helps to prepare our heart and mind for prayer, and to grow in one’s relationship with God. This is called discipleship. A daily follower of God. Jesus, exhorted us to ,”Take up our cross daily by denying ourselves, and to follow Him” Matthew 16:24

God exhorted Joshua to meditate on the Scriptures to be victorious and successful by doing what the Word of God says.
“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” Joshua 1.8

Notice we are exhorted to meditate on the Word day and night! Why?
Here are 7 Steps:

  1. God’s Word helps us to stay focused on who God is in His character. His presence and holiness.
  2. God’s Word is a compass that gives us direction. “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
  3. God’s Word helps is to make wise decisions. I can meditate and wait asking for God for the right response.
  4. The more I focus on God. The more I learn about myself. I can attest to that. There were many lessons I learned im my life. Some areas were difficult to address, but patience and persistence paid off to spiritual maturity and growth. This Sunday 44 years ago January 26, 1981 my life changed forever, when Jesus came into my heart with a personal relationship. I’m still a work in progress and the Lord is not finished with me yet.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Ephesians 2:10

  1. When I meditate on God’s Word I am not just reading. I’m wrestling with God what are you trying to say to me in this verse or passage.
  2. Meditating on God’s Word gives us stability keeps you grounded and solid. It gives us hope.

“But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”
Psalm 1:2-3 NLT

“Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Colossians 2:7

  1. God’s Word is our sword for battle. Use the Scriptures to fight the enemy

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” Hebrews 4:12

My friend may you be challenged today and take to heart what God is trying to speak to you today. Have a great weekend and keep your shoulders straight and your head held high!

Greetings! My name is Andy Provitola and I live in New England on the South Shore between Boston and the beautiful Cape Cod region. The purpose of my blogging and writing is to encourage you in your journey here on planet earth. Life is full of pressing issues and problems and my desire is to discover a place for peace, hope, healing, and contentment. I am a follower of Jesus Christ – God’s one and only Son and I discovered these truths along my own personal journey. Having discovered a personal relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ does not mean I have to be religious to attain the rewards of heaven. The fact is God provides grace for us and accepts us as we are in His image. In other words, we cannot attain heaven or life eternal on our own, but by God’s loving grace and no merit of our own. Simply by accepting Him by faith and believing. My goal is to continue to find a balance of life from a spiritual and practical perspective with a purpose to please and glorify God in all that I do because of His ‘Gift of Grace’. God is not transcendent and so far away that he is out of reach with humanity. God desires that His presence lives within us and not just in the galaxies and the universe. Experiencing the unconditional love of God has been so rewarding and while discovering the truth and purpose for my life. Moving forward in this life is not a sprint, but a marathon when it comes to this race here on earth. I am blogging because I find it is a good way to connect in a much more effective and efficient way when it comes to communicating and interacting with people that I know or do not know. Blogging and writing challenges me and also stretches me specifically in my thoughts, my mind, my emotions, and my spiritual life. To live a vertical relation with God and a horizontal relationship with others. There will be a variety of topics and subjects to address including youth, young adults, family, singles, seniors, relationships, etc. Some of the topics will include God’s creation and power, depression, loneliness, suicide, hope, healing, setbacks, financial matters, business, stress, anxiety, care, encouragement, and so much more. I would like to connect with all walks of life, ethnicity, culturally, other religions, socio-economics, and in so many more ways. I am currently writing a book and several memoirs about my own life and journey . The journey begins at a young age growing up in Malden, Massachusetts, specifically Maplewood Square to where I am today. I became paralyzed from the waist down as a senior in high school and I share how my life changed for the better! “But I do not consider my life as something of value or dear to me, so that I may [with joy] finish my course and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus. To testify faithfully of the good news of God’s [precious undeserved] grace [which makes us free of guilt of sin and grants us eternal life]. Acts 20:24 Amplified Version
